The Pupil Premium for 2015-16 was allocated to local authorities and schools with pupils on roll in January 2014 who are known to have been eligible for FSM at any time in the last six years. The school receives approximately £1300 per each of these pupils. Schools have the freedom to spend the premium, which is additional to the underlying school’s budget, in a way they think will best support the raising of attainment for the most vulnerable pupils.
In 2015/16, Newbridge Junior School chose to use this money in several ways to enhance the learning opportunities for our pupils. In some year groups, additional teaching staff were employed to better address the wide range of educational needs of our pupils. Intervention programmes were run in each year group (either individually or in small groups) and delivered by teachers or highly trained Teaching Assistants. Before and after school booster classes, run by our teachers, were also provided to ensure specific needs were met. We offer a great amount of pastoral support to many of our pupils to ensure they can access the curriculum.
